“Spider-man, Spider-man, does whatever a spider can.”
Haven’t you ever wanted to be Spider-man? Think about how fun it would be to swing around the Big Apple. Kick some butt and save the day.
You probably will never get to be Spider-man but playing Spider-Man can sure feel like it! This game is a great addition to the already great series of Spider-Man games.
Open Ended:
First of all, this game breaks down all the barriers from the previous games. The entire city is open ended! Yes you heard correctly, you can go any where in New York City. Think GTA but with Spider-Man (and without all that cussing other inappropriate crap)
Swinging:
In addition to the open ended game play, there is a whole new way to swing. In this game you actually have to shoot the web at buildings instead of just shooting a web into the air. This makes for a much more realistic (and by realistic I mean Totally Awesome) gaming experience. Half of the fun is just swinging around the city.
Combat:
Basic combat involves pressing a punch button and a kick button. This in combo with the jump button and the web button can create devastating combos ranging form the head plant to tying henchmen to a pole. (My personal favorite) As you progress through the game you can get more combos to score more damage.
Graphics:
While I am a firm believer that game play, not graphics, makes a game fun, I must mention the graphics on this game. It looks very realistic. Maybe not PS3 worthy, but better than what I thought my Gamecube could do.
Story:
For the most part the story is similar to the movie. The producers, however, did take a lot of creative liberties in translating the story from movie to game. The game also has a sub plot about black cat.
Crime and Hero Points:
Hero Points are very important in the game. You must collect them to keep the story moving along. Also, you can spend hero points at the nearest Spidey-store for upgrades and new attack combos. The way to earn Hero Points is to stop crime and complete missions. There are two basic types of crime, random and citizen in distress. The random crimes occur, well, randomly. The citizen in distress crimes can only be accessed by talking to citizens in distress. (DUH!)
Tokens:
There are tokens hidden throughout the city you can find for extra hero points or tips on how to play the game.
Humor:
As in all Spider-Man games, there is more than enough humor to go around. Bruce Camble has returned as the voice of the narrator. That ought to be enough to prove to you that this game is funny.
Mini-Missions:
You can take on mini-missions such as delivering pizza or taking pictures for the daily bugle. As a reward for wasting your time in such a way, you win Hero Points. Almost all of these missions require doing something in a short amount of time.
Overall, this game is a great investment. It can get kind repetitive after a short time, but it is still a great way to spend a Saturday. (unless you have a social life
)
