I have been thinking about what to put in this post for a few days now but the bottom line is that I don’t know what to say about this game. You know how sometimes when you play a great game, you want to tell everyone about it and you just cant shut up. Those kind of games are great but every once in a blue moon a game comes along that truly leaves you speechless. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption is one of those games. While playing it, one cannot think of anything to say except for “Whoa!” and “Wow!”. So please excuse me if this post is not that good….but then again after I get started, I may have a hard time stopping.
Well,….here it goes:
This game revolves more around story and has more cutscenes than the previous games. The story is about a virus that has corrupted the Galactic Federations”Organic Computers.” it is up to Samus and 3 other bounty hunters to inject the antidote into the computers with the virus…but the plot thickens quickly. Right after you recive your orders, the ship you are on (and the planet you are orbiting) comes under attack from the Space Pirates. The pirates take down the planetary defenses and then launch a giant meteor at the planet. Your job is to go down to the planet and bring the defense systems back online to save the planet. (You get some help from the other bounty hunters and GF troopers though) Right as you are about to bring the defenses online, Meta Ridley attacks you and you both fall down a shaft leading to the planets core. This is one of the best boss fights I have ever played. You actually have to fight Meta Ridley in free fall! After you beat him and get the generator back online (I am not gonna tell you how you escape the free fall into the center of the planet…I will save that for when you play it
) You and the other bounty hunters get attacked by Dark Samus. You wake up 1 month later to find that the blast from Dark Samus has given your body the ability to generate Phazon. You have been equipped with a P.E.D. Upgrade to your suit. (Phazon Enhanced Device) You can now enter Hyper-Mode (a super mode that turns you into a super powerful killing machine) But there is a dark side to it. (but I wont tell you cause that is too big of a spoiler….lets just say it is the reason this game is called corruption)
Wow…that is a little to much story…lets just say that the plot thickens after that…now onto the gameplay!!!
The controls are awesome. they are right when they say that it sets the standard for FPS controls on the Wii. You strafe with the control stick on the nunchuck and turn by aiming the Wiimote in the direction you want to go.
The upgrade system is different from the last 2 prime games. Instead of getting new things the upgrades just stack. (ex. Instead of getting an Ice-Beam, your missiles become Ice-missiles)
…you know, I am running out of things to say other than “METROID ROCKS”…so…I think I will end not…
W8 A MINUIT, there are a couple of bad things about the game I should warn you about
First of all the Extras System. You get tokens for achievements in the game. Red tokens for scanning bad guys. Gold tokens for beating bosses. Blue for completing mission objectives. You use combinations of these tokens to purchase bonuses like Image Galleries and Music. The problem is that to get the good extras, like mii bobble-heads, bumper stickers for you ship, and a screenshot tool, you need the green friend tokens. The way you get friend tokens is the problem. You get friend vouchers by completing special objectives and then you send them to friends over the internet and it gives them friend tokens…it sucks if you have nobody to send you friend vouchers. Extras should be unlocked by your own achievements, not your friends.
and the other problem, and this is a big one, the doors are twice a glitch as in the 1st game. Very often you will find yourself getting mad about not being able to get the door open….ARGH!
but aside from that, metroid prime 3 is a great game!
WHOA…..this post is really really long….didn’t see that one coming…but then again it took me 2 nights to write
