Ok so this is pretty sweet. It is like a virtual Stock Market. But rather that investing in business you invest in predictions (about business and technology)
Ok so here is how it works. You pick a prediction like “Will PS3 outsell the Wii and XBox 360 this year.” If you think it will you invest in it by buying its future stock. If most people think it will the price of stock will go up. You can then make money (popsci dollars) by selling the stock at a higher price.
But lets say you don’t think the PS3 will win the console war. (like me) You can bet against the stock by shorting it. Then as the price of stock goes down you cover it. You make money based on decrease of stock price rather than increase.
The pricce of the stock is a percentage of if people think it will happen or not. (for example a price of $73.12 means that 73.12% of the people think it is likely to happen. If the prediction comes true you get pop$100 for every share you have in that stock. (and trust me, you will tend to buy stock in the hundreds)
To start simply goto http://ppx.popsci.com/ and select “Sign Up” (there is also a tutorial that explains things better) By, signing up you get pop$250,000 to stat off with.
Oh, and here are some of the stocks I have invested in (or against)
