Ok, when I first picked up this movie at the store, it was because I know Earl liked it and I thought I would give it a try. … Ok, I lied…I was just wondering why Steve Carell was using pancakes as a pillow. But then I remembered what earl said.
This film is about a single dad, named Dan, who writes an advice column for the local newspaper. His relation ship with his daughters is strained due to him being overprotective. After they head out for a family reunion, Dan meets a woman at the bookstore. They have coffee and Dan starts to fall for her. When he gets home and tells his family he thinks he may have met someone, he sees that she is already there….she is his brother’s girlfriend.
This movie is really good. It is funny, but not really hilarious. The real humor can be found in the irony. I don’t wanna go into any examples of the irony, for fear that I will give away spoilers, but it is there and in my mind, it is what makes this movie shine.
It does not feel to long, or too short. It ends at just the right place. The characters felt real, for the most part. You began to sympathize with them and in the end, get hooked.
All in all, this was a great movie and a great way to waste a Friday night. I would not recommend buying it, but it is definitely a must rent.
