Fantastic Four Reboot?!

Last night, Earl told me that he heard that Fox is planning a Fantastic Four reboot. After searching for it on my own, I was able to find some unconfirmed rumors about it. Apparently, Fox wants to scrap the entire cast from the previous two films and start the series over like they did with The Incredible Hulk. Now, with Hulk this was a good idea, but I liked the first two Fantastic Four movies. They do not need to get a reboot.

They way I see it, if the original one was so bad, then why did it get a sequel? Sure, it has its critics, but it is not bad enough to warrant a reboot. This new one will supposedly take a darker tone; it is being compared to Iron Man and The Dark Knight. That is the problem, ever since TDK, dark comic book movies have become a fad. There is nothing wrong with some of them being dark. Batman should be dark, but the Fantastic Four?! I know they have their dark moments, but I don’t think of them as particularly dark comic.

I sincerely hope this rumor is false, because I think it will ruin the series, but what do you think?

It’s Fox. I expect no less of them when it comes to stupidity.

I’m actually really excited for this. I see what you’re saying, that you liked the original and that they shouldn’t be trying to fix what was already good, turning something supposed to be bright and turning dark, but that’s not necessarily true.

For one, Fox kinda screwed the pooch on the second movie. The first one’s good, but the second one’s not so much in my opinion. They are shooting for more of an Iron Man feel, but I don’t think that means they’re trying to make it dark, but that they’re trying to make it more realistic. Iron Man wasn’t dark, they just grounded his character with a reality. The second movie’s a different story. I will agree, a new fad has been “the darker superhero”, which is totally evident in movies like TDK or even Watchmen, which are both great movies. I’m in support of the fad, b/c I don’t really think it’s any different from any other superhero movie fad.

There’s nothing wrong with a campy feel (It’s not my thing but there’s nothing wrong with it), but there’s a difference between campy and crappy. First movie’s really campy, really standard superhero, but was pretty good, so are the Spiderman 1 and 2, standard superhero, but good movies. But the 2nd is pretty crappy. I think this is deserving of a reboot, I’ll go see it, hopefully it’s good.

Sorry for the long comment btw.

I liked the F4 movies. But I guess I wouldn’t mind a reboot. As long as they don’t replace Michael Chiklis.
    He was an awesome Thing!

There is nothing standard about Spiderman 1 and 2. Those were seriously epic films. Far superior to any of the “darker” comic book movies.

I think the FF movies stayed true to the feel of their comic book counterparts. It did not feel too campy or crappy to me. It felt like the FF.

WHen I said Spiderman 1 and 2 are standard, I meant that they’re the standard type of superhero movie, not that that’s not good, it’s just like a standard template. Guy faces villain, they fight, there’s the girl, blah blah blah, it’s all great. 2nd’s a lot more epic than the first. Anywho, the two movies may stay true to the comic feel, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be a crappy movie. Like TDK, stayed true to comic feel, great movie. Watchmen, was a great movie, followed the movie feel spot on through the whole thing.

See here’s the thing. If every movie is going to be as dark as batman then all the movies are going to be boring, bleak, and so freakin depressing that no one will care anymore. Dark films need to be balenced out with light films and vice versa.

I’m not saying every superhero movie has to be dark, I’m just saying that there’s a difference between crappy and campy. Spiderman 1- Campy Great, not dark at all. Fantastic Four 2-Crappy.
