Alice In Wonderland (2010) (4.5/5)

I came in to this film with high expectations.  I was a big fan of the Disney film, and I would have been furious if this had not lived up to it.  Luckily, I was not dissapointed.

Alice in Wonderland does a great job of creating a land full of…wonder.  It carried the same feel of nonsense and wimsy that you expect from an Alice in Wonderland film, while keeping it fresh.

This is not the same story that you have heard over and over.  Alice is 20, rather than her usual 7.  And the Mad Hatter, the Chesire Cat, Tweedle Dee and Dum, and various other characters are staging a rebellion against the red queen. And it is foretold that only Alcie can defeat her evil Jabberwoky (yeah, you read that right, a nice little nod to those familiar with carrol’s work)

This movie has feels like 70% Tim Burton/Johnny Depp 30% Lewis Carrol, which means a little more dark and creepy as opposed to fun and wimsy.  It works well, and is very entertaining.

Its kinda hard to explain this movie, just as it would be hard to explain wonderland.  The only thing I can really say is watch this movie.  You wil be glad you did.
