It looks like we are going to get to see more of the Avatar Universe, no deadbeat directors required!
It has been less than a week since M. Night’s “The Last Airbender” disappointed fans of the series. Luckily for the fans, it looks like there may be hope. There is evidence to show that there may be a Avatar Spin-off in the works.
The first piece of evidence comes from an article written for NY Daily News about nick. (Click here for the link) It does not get to the good stuff until the next to the last paragraph:
…”Expanding the brand” happens this summer with the theatrical release of M. Night Shyamalan’s “The Last Airbender,” the first in a three-film, live-action franchise based on Nickelodeon’s animated series “Avatar: The Last Airbender.” Nickelodeon has “Avatar” creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko developing a new series, too, Zarghami said.
Meanwhile, CartoonSnap has listed job openings for an “Untitled Avatar Project” (click here for the link)
The most important thing to note, in my opinion, is that Michael Dante DiMartino, and Bryan Konietzko are working on this project. Spin-offs of this sort usually fail unless they get the creators to come in. With these people here we know Nick won’t mess up the series.
So what is the spin-off going to be about? No clue. I doubt it will be a direct continuation of the series (though I would love that) I think it will be set in a diffrent time (past or future), with a different Avatar (or possibly no Avatar). Really, all we have now is speculation but I think one thing is clear: It will be better than the movie!
(btw, I would like to thank http://lastairbenderfilm.com, and the fine folks at the Avatar Wiki Forums for bringing this information to light.)
*Post Script*
I just found a PNG image of an interview with the avatar creators in a magazine. (click here for the image) It says that after the end of season two, nick signed on for three more seasons. This could mean that the new series is a continuation (but not necessarily) *Note, you may have to zoom in on the image to read it, sorry

They are happy about the good news!
…Oh, no! I just had a terrible thought! What if the poor reception of M. Night’s film causes Nick to cancel this show?! *shudders* Lets hope not!
