Athletes, Not Heroes

So, what do teachers, garbage men, and plumbers have in common?  Give up?  They are all needed for our society to function properly.  Think about it!  Without teachers, nobody would be educated.  That may not sound too important now, but just try to imagine life without being able to read.  (It would make text-messaging kind of hard!)  Without garbage men, what would we do with our trash?  Lastly there is the plumber.  I don’t even think I need to explain why they are important.Oh, there is one other thing that they have in common!  They all make less money than professional athletes.  Does this strike anyone but me as odd?  These people work hard to contribute to society and make next to nothing.  Meanwhile, a bunch of self-obsessed steroid addicts make millions for running after a ball like a little dog.  It seems kind of backwards, right?

I’m sure some of you are thinking “athletes contribute to society too!”  To that, I say “Bull!”  What do they possibly do that helps to improve the world in any way?  I could only come up with a few reasons but they could easily be discounted.

The 1st way is that they help the economy.  There is a lot of money that goes into these games and a lot of jobs that the games bring in.  However, there is also a lot of illegal betting and violence due to that betting.  So, money wise, the “big game” hurts as much as it helps.

The 2nd way I could find is that they give back to the community.  I admit, some athletes do give large donations to charitable causes.  All famous people do.  It helps their image.  So what if an athlete gave a million dollars to fight cancer!  He is worth 50 million!  It is not like it made a big dent in his bank account.

The 3rd way athletes may contribute is that kids look up to them.  Which can be a good thing, until the athlete starts getting arrested or starts taking steroids?  Also, of all the people we want our children to look up to, is athletes really one of them?  Why would you want a child to be an athlete when he (or she) could grow up to make the world a better place?  Wouldn’t it be better for the child to want to be an astronaut, doctor or scientist?

The final way that I could think of is Athletic scholarships.  I have always thought that the entire concept of an athletic scholarship makes no sense.  College is a place built upon academics, not athletics.  So, the fact that colleges, or even highschools, have athletic programs does not even make sense.  (Much less, the idea of giving free rides into college for playing sports.)

Basically, athletes make no real contribution to society.  So, why is our country so obsessed with them?  I think that it all goes back to primitive times, thousands of years ago, when man had to be strong to live, the time when men had to hunt with spears or arrows in order to eat.  Shouldn’t we have been able to let go of those primal instincts by now?  Does it really make sense that people who contribute nothing to our world are rich, yet the people who work had to make civilized life possible get no recognition?

What do you think?  Tell me about it!

Which Brawl Character?

Ok, so I was on this forum when a guy named Anti asked “If you could let any character(s) from SSBB move in with you, who would it(they) be and why?”

So what would you say?

Tell me about it!

Brawl Characters

Ok, Brawl is awesome.  If you did not already know that then  1.) your not a gamer 2.) You have been in a coma.

One of the best parts of Brawl is all the characters.  You have such a wide variety of diverse characters it can even be a little overwhelming at first.  Eventualy, however, you will find favrotes. (if you have not already)

Who is your favorite Newcomer to Brawl and why?  (Personally, It is a tie between Sonic and Metaknight for me.)

Also, who is your favrote returning character?  (Link for me)

What character did you want to see that was not included and why?  (I sooooo wanted to be Meta Ridley!)

Tell me about it!

Nintendo’s Controllers: Whats Next?

Ok, so I was thinking about how the controllers for the X-Boxes and Playstations have not changes a whole lot over the years. Don’t get me wrong, they have changed a bit. The thing is that the Nintendo controllers have changed a whole lot over the years.

At first there was the square clunky NES controller, then the rounder SNES controler. After that, they came up with the “unique” design for the N64 followed by the Gamecube Controller.

Then came the big shock, the Wiimote! I remember the first time I saw it, I thought it was a joke. After much criticizing and doubt, I got a little more info and learned about the nunchuck. This was starting to sound interesting, my doubts faded a little. Soon I became verry exited about this new innovation. Then came the day I got to try it! Two words, Gaming Bliss! I have never had so much fun playing a sports videogame. I was hooked!

Now I wonder, what kind of controller will Nintendo come up with next. Will they possible be able to top the Wiimote? What do you think? Tell me about it!

So Sonic, Bringing A Friend With You?

We all know that Sonic has been confirmed for Super Smash Bro’s Brawl, but do you think that there are going to be any other characters from the series?   I seriously doubt that they will announce any new characters, but there may be another Sonic Hero (or villain) as a hidden unlockable.  If they do, who do you think it will (should) be?

Fantastic Four 3: Villains?

Ok, If and when they make the next fantastic four, and I hope they do, I think the villains should be the skulls from outer space.

Think about it. They are a race of shape-shifting aliens who infiltrate our society to destroy it from the inside out. Their first attempt to destroy the Fantastic Four is by commenting crimes and framing the FF. The FF are considered outlaws and are hunted by everyone. But the FF outsmart them. Their second attempt to defeat the FF is by creating a Super Skrull who has the powers of all of the FF and more!

Do you not agree that they would be the best villains for the next film? If not, then what who do you think it should be? The Moleman? The Pupettmaster? Impossible Man? Molecule Man? The Sub Mariner? Me? Bill Gates? Etc.!?

Tell me your opinion.

Oh, and I have a reprint of the comic featured on this post.  If you want to read it Earl or DS, I can let you borrow it at school.  I keep it in my backpack at all times….what?!….DON’T JUDGE ME!

Christmas Tree vs. Holiday Tree

So, I’m sure you have all heard the debate about how it is “politically incorrect” to call that tree in your living room a “Christmas Tree”. Now, most people who support this will be quick to point out that the tradition of decorating trees in the wintertime predates the origin of Christmas. However, the practice as we know it today started in 16th century Germany. It is not know exactly how the tradition stared but it is generally accepted to have been a Christmas decoration. Christmas Tree, as it was called, slowly spread through Europe and eventually into the United States. We did not, however, welcome the Christmas Tree with open arms as you might expect. Christmas trees were considered as a pagan tradition and a mockery of Christmas. The court of Massachusetts even made it illegal to decorate a home with ornaments and Christmas Trees. It was not until 1846 when a sketch of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert with their children in front of a Christmas Tree appeared in Illustrated London News. Pretty soon it was considered fashionable in Great Britain and America to have a Christmas Tree.

So is it wrong to call it a Christmas Tree? Is Holiday Tree a more appropriate term? To answer that question, my friends, you have to think about why it should be called a Holiday Tree. They say it is unfair to the religions that celebrate holidays other than Christmas. But, if they are not celebrating Christmas, then they don’t need a “Holiday Tree”. Do they? Have you ever seen somebody buy a “Holiday Tree” for any holiday other than Christmas? That is about the same as calling Hanukkah Menorah a “Holiday Candle”. It makes no sense.

But I am not saying you should not call it a “Christmas Tree” and, I am not saying you should call it a “Holiday Tree”. It really should not matter what you call it! Shakespeare was right when he wrote that “a rose of any other name would smell as sweet”. It seems kinda petty for men to be arguing about the name of a tree during the season of “Peace on Earth and good will towards men”.

So it real does not matter what kind of a tree you have in your living room. What matters is that you keep the true spirit of Christmas and keep yourself above these petty arguments.
